This is a Full-time position in Sarnia, ON posted May 10, 2021.

Child Protection Worker, Protocol Investigator Social Program Officer (Child Protection) 24 This position sits in the Tri-Cities and provides support to the communities in the North Fraser.

This posting is to establish an eligibility list to fill both current and/or future permanent and/or temporary vacancies.

There is currently a 5-month temporary assignment available, which may be extended.

A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.

This temporary vacancy is a great opportunity to grow your social services career and gain experience working in Protocol Investigation The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.C.

The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs through dedicated ministry social workers that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

The Protocol Investigator works closely with the Resources Units, the Child Protection Teams and the Directors of Operation within the service delivery area.

This position is responsible for managing and investigating reports of abuse and neglect in foster homes and staffed agency resources.

This position may also include a wide range of other child protection duties, when not actively involved in a protocol, such as home studies, intake, mentoring new staff, and generally supporting various other functions on a child protection team.

Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work; OR Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care; OR Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare as defined in the Job Profile attached at the bottom of the posting; OR NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA); OR Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field PLUS a minimum of two years of recent, obtained in the last five years, related work experience; OR Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate in a Human Services field (from a University or Graduate School) obtained AFTER completion of an unrelated degree PLUS a minimum of two years of recent, obtained in the last five years, related work experience.

Related work experience includes experience gained during and/or after completing the required education, and includes working with children, youth and families in a number of settings.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

A minimum of two years or more of experience in Child Protection and/or protective family services.

Must possess C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act.

Applicants who are eligible for C6 delegation within one month of hire may be considered.

Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s licence with no restriction or equivalent (i.e.

from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care, or Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare, or in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employee applicants who hold a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).

Recent experience (within last 2 years) in intake investigations and family development response.

Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
