Our client is looking for a care worker to support urban Indigenous clients access financial supports.

The objective of this role is to provide culturally appropriate community support services and promote an integrated response, community participation, independent living and improved quality of life.As a key member of our client’s team, you’ll be with supporting clientele that are or are close to homeless by creating and fostering partnerships with landlords, shelters and other related housing partners.

Experience working with Indigenous people (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) is a MUST as the program this role supports is designed to improve the quality of life of urban Indigenous Peoples.

What our Support Worker does:Providing outreach service for those who are experiencing homelessness (or at risk of homelessness or in crisis situation)Assist clientele in accessing financial supports (medications, transportation, food vouchers)Provide a range of opportunities for clients to learn living skills and increase their connection to communityConduct culturally appropriate assessmentBuild relationships with program partners, clients, and landlordsAdvocate on behalf of clientsAccess community resources for clients (furniture, household supplies, food banks, etc.) Our ideal candidate should have:Awareness of Indigenous culture, history, and issues affecting Indigenous people (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) is a MUST2-year Diploma or Bachelor degree in Social work, Nursing, Psychology, or Social ServicesTwo year’s related experience is preferredThorough knowledge of intergenerational trauma, mental illness and trauma informed practiceStrong communication and interpersonal skills Experience teaching/training life skills programing to adultsCrisis intervention knowledge/skillsAbility to conduct needs assessments for adultsDemonstrated skills in report writing and documentationAbility to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel Be able to work independently and be reliable and self-motivatedMust be physically fit and able to lift 30 lbsStandard First Aid Level C with AED certification completed is an assetSafe Food Handling certification is an assetMust be able to work flexible hours including after school, evenings and weekendsExperience working with Aboriginal communities and/or non-profit organizationsMUST have a personal computer for email, data entry and word processingMUST have a driver’s license and a clean driving record.

(A recent driver’s abstract will be required.)MUST provide a clear Criminal record check and Vulnerable Sector clearance This exciting opportunity is based on a 35-hour workweek, and includes benefits and vacation, with a salary range of $40,000 to 45,000 per year.
