Job Details What you will do You will develop and plan the assembly and construction layout design of all major projects.

You will lead the development of the department including assembly lines set-up and ensuring training is provided to ensure the highest quality, safety and productivity.

You will coordinate and direct projects, project staff and set goals, budgets, and timelines for active projects.

Assistance is available for this position to support relocation to the Edmonton, AB area.

How you will do it Design product assembly lines with Production coordinators (PCs)/engineering; ensure all associated admin work is addressed in advance of the construction kick off; scheduling, station setups (BOMs, fab parts, consumables), subassembly design and layout, plant layouts, rough cycle times, takt time calculations, preliminary line balancing (ongoing balance).

Ensure safety is a priority with all workers and managers, oversee strict adherence to Alberta and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, attend JHSA meetings.

Involvement, when required, in Health and Safety incident investigations, root causes, CARs, and preventative measures.

Work with the safety department/structural engineer to come up with effective designs in terms of safety restraint systems and other solutions to ensure safety is sustainable prior to project commencement on the floor.

Liaison between engineering and production on all projects; transfer of knowledge and acting as a bridge between engineering department, PMs and production supervisors, ensuring all around effective communication.

Construction kick-off planning, ensuring all items on the kick-off agenda are addressed well before the kick-off is slated to happen, safety, schedule creation, personal drawing review, drawings are distributed to appropriate production personnel for review.

Manage and mentor production coordinators; give direction on day-to-day projects, work with PCs on larger projects such as assembly line layouts, process refinement projects etc.

Manage ECR process between engineering and production, review and sign off on all ECRs.

Work with QC department on implementation of standard work, aiding QC in a support role to close out CARs and implement long term and sustainable fixes to prevent reoccurrence.

Partner with the CI Team (continuous improvement) as an engineering presence; product research, construction drawing coordination, design calcs/drawing semblance and review, ROIs, etc.

Act as project manager on larger engineering/production projects such as FWTs and various other testing/prototype related work; research, pricing, product procurement, project management on the floor with production leaders, red-lining drawings real time to ensure product as-built accuracy is archived.

Work with production and planning in gathering important project information; especially relating to time trial projects/gathering information for successive scheduling tasks, as projects enter main production stream.

Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.

Ensure projects are manufactured in accordance with, Request for Proposal (RFP), engineering specifications and contracting procedures.

In collaboration with line supervisors, oversee the training/development and maintenance of staff competencies.

Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

Monitor progress against project schedules; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.

Review QC inspection reports and assists in resolution of field construction problems.

Provide technical oversight and coordination of project engineering work; through project coordination meetings and other means.

Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in-person.

Perform other duties as necessary.

What we look for Required: Professional Engineering Degree (P.Eng.) 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in an Engineering Department with direct responsibility for the design and/or construction portion of the department Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards Demonstrated knowledge of codes for operation’s geographical area Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills Ability to apply the right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving Ability to create alternative solutions to problems Excellent time management and project management skills High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures Occasional shop environment, requiring adherence to safety policies and exercise of caution, as the environment presents many naturally occurring hazards Preferred: Prior experience in a supervisory role, managing professionals Effective leadership skills LI-JJ1 Canada Diversity Statement Information obtained from the questions below will allow Johnson Controls to track the diversity of our applicants, employee training opportunities, promotions and employee retention in order to identify and remove barriers to employment and advancement.
