Pharmacy Student


This is a Contract position in Sarnia, ON posted May 12, 2022.

The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Currently enrolled in a Pharmacist program at an accredited University required

Skill, Ability and Experience:

• Basic proficiency in the use of computers required
• Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy preferred

Principle Duties:

• Assists Pharmacist in dispensing medications for all hospital patients at both Bluewater Health sites
• Fulfils tech duties as required in medication distribution i.e. Fills unit dose cassettes
• Checks the ward stock supply on selected nursing units and replenishes the stock
• Fills ward stock requisitions and restocks automated dispensing cabinets (AcuDose)
• Participates/shadows in interdisciplinary rounds daily, shadowing clinical pharmacists as requested
• Follows up on all drug related problems arising from patient care and discharge counseling on patients with pharmacist supervision
• Provides research into drug information questions and provides weekly in-service to Pharmacists
• Works on projects assigned by senior staff
• Attends and prepares documents as required for Infection Control committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, and Medication Reconciliation committee
• Prepares newsletter summarizing changes to pharmacy drugs and protocols following monthly Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee meetings
• Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
• Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
• Other related duties as assigned
