Director, Data and AI Risk – Toronto, ON

As the Director, Data and AI Risk, you will lead and oversee a team within the Data & AI Risk, Global Risk Management group ensuring the Enterprise Data, Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk strategy, implementation program and mandated activities are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:
• Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Help VP, Data & AI Risk to shape the Enterprise Data, Analytics and AI Risk (DAAIR) strategy
• Lead the roll-out and ongoing execution of the DAAIR program for the assigned risk governance scope, business lines/corporate offices and geographies, which includes but is not limited to the following:
• Develop, refine, and enhance the assigned DAAIR framework components, policies, procedures, processes, tools, and metrics with the objective to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the data, analytics and AI risk management practices
• Ensure DAAIR policy enforcement and compliance through appropriate governance and oversight mechanisms
• Establish and lead the execution of the 2nd line risk oversight, effective challenge, risk measurement and reporting (new initiative risk assessments, risk control assessments, internal management reports, senior management and Board reports as required)
• Advise and collaborate with Data Offices, Analytics groups, other partners and stakeholders with regards to the data, analytics and AI risk management principles, standards, controls, and best practices
• Support Data Offices, Analytics groups, and other key partners with identification, communication and reporting of relevant data, analytics and AI risk priorities, successes, issues, regulatory expectations
• Guide and influence various stakeholders across the organization to achieve the goals defined in the DAAIR and Enterprise Data Management strategies and programs
• Support resolution of risk governance and management issues by driving stakeholder engagement, coordination and alignment
• Conduct DAAIR awareness events and training sessions on DAAIR framework, policy, 2nd line of defense processes, metrics and reporting
• Provide oversight on the prioritization and remediation plans for data, analytics and AI risk issues: monitor and report on key risk indicators, identify compliance gaps and risk issues, guide risk impact-focused gap and issue prioritization and creation of action plans to remediate gaps and issues, monitor plan executions
• Ensure that own and his/her team’s day-to-day activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statements.

Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statements throughout his/her team.

• Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

• Build a high performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

What we’re looking for?

5 years in management role 10 years in industry 7 years in Data Governance, Audit, Data Management, data-intensive Risk Management roles Deep expertise in Data Governance, Data Management, Model
– or other Risk Management and related Sr Management, Audit and regulatory expectations Strong experience in data-focused role(s) in one or more of lines of business or corporate functions, or in Audit, Data Governance, Data Management, Risk Management role(s) covering one or more of the Bank’s business lines or corporate functions Strong engagement with and knowledge of practices, processes, current and emerging trends and risks for model risk management and governance, business analytics, data science, advanced analytics and emerging technologies (ML, AI) Demonstrated team and stakeholder management experience and leadership experience in an enterprise or cross-functional role Proven ability to coordinate activities of cross functional teams of business, IT and other key stakeholders Strong interpersonal and communication/persuasion skills Demonstrated experience in building relationships and influencing without authority This position is located in downtown, Toronto Location(s): Canada : Ontario : Toronto Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas.
